Flumserberg to Langenthal
Flumserberg > Glarus > Klausenpass > Altdorf > Luzern > Langenthal
Distance traveled this day: 215km
We were up pretty late as the wedding party for our friends Thomas Kuehne and Britta Jenny in Mollis went on until the wee hours. That’s a whole ‘nother story. I consider it some kind of miracle I had not much of hangover. After breakfast we got out of town, down the mountain, around the lake, rolling slowly with the traffic down to Glarus.
The road up the Klausen pass is narrow and there were some idiots with large vans blocking us quite effectively. I was a bit frustrated as the east ramp is definately the best for fast riding, and this was the very last pass on our itinery. Marylyn was soon hungry again and we stopped at the hotel on the top of the pass (1948m). The view from up there is great and I think quite underrated as Swiss passes go. It’s a pleasant run down to Altdorf where we had to join the freeway around the south side of the lake of Luzern in order to avoid the long trek around the lake and all the traffic. Traffic heading into Luzern was bad so we took surface streets around the mess and got away toward the Sursee and then into my ‘backyard’, the Emmenthal, for the last stretch home, ripping along in the last of the sunshine, the Jura in the distance. We were back in our hotel there and early for dinner.
